Their location in Birkweiler provides them with a unique variety of vineyard locations condensed within a very small area; the terroir is more varied in their wine region than anywhere else in Germany. From Rotliegend (bright red mix of slate and sandstone) to Bunter sandstone and shell limestone to Keuper shale, they have vineyards with four completely different soils. This, of course, results in exciting cultivation possibilities for all their grape varieties. This also means great individuality with the same macroclimate. They make use of these vineyards to achieve the highest quality levels, especially with Pinot varieties and Riesling.
The estate was founded by Karl Wehrheim in the buildings of a historic Art Nouveau farm in the community of Birkweiler in 1920. The Wehrheim family still plays a decisive and active role in the wine estate today. Karl-Heinz Wehrheim has been in charge of the vineyard and the wine cellar since 1992 and his son Franz joined the company in 2010 as an oenology student. Wehrheim’s wife and three daughters are also involved in the wine estate. And even the senior Dr. Heinz Wehrheim, who is more than 90 years old, is still on hand to provide advice.
Weingut Dr. Wehrheim has been working biodynamically since 2007 and has consistently pursued this type of cultivation. Since 2010, all wines of the estate are certified organic. On the one hand, it’s about preserving the cultural and ecological heritage. On the other hand, the biodynamic cultivation is also reflected in the quality and the special typicity of their wines.
Founded in 2005, the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House has established strong relationships with partner producers to craft champagnes of a rare elegance from exceptional terroirs and rigorously selected grapes. “Accomplishing through great achievements”, such has been the Rothschild family’s ambition for more than 250 years. Through the strength of its wine-growing experience, the family has joined forces with producers from Champagne to develop excellent champagnes which bring together know-how and tradition.
Anthonij Rupert Wyne was founded on the farm L’Ormarins in Franschhoek. Originally owned by the late Anthonij Rupert, who passed away in 2001, the farm was taken over by his brother Johann Rupert in 2003. It was Johann Rupert who constructed a state-of-the-art winemaking facility on the estate, and the beginnings of what was to become a sprawling enterprise with a focus on terroir-specific wines.
Takara has great experience in producing Shochu , Mirin and Sake for more than one-and-a-half centuries. Because Takara’s main business endeavors depend heavily on the mastery of natural processes such as fermentation, the Company feels a strong responsibility toward preserving the natural environment.
