Tenuta san Giorgio was founded in 1982 but the winery has been part of the ColleMassari Group since 2016. The Tenuta san Giorgio estate is situated in an outstanding location overlooking the Orcia valley and exposed to the climate of Mount Amiata. The winery is located near Castelnuovo dell’Abate in the municipality of Montalcino, not far from the Sant’Antimo abbey. Natural elements cooperate to offer a favourable and dry climate, with a Mediterranean breeze coming from the West and powerful temperature fluctuations between day and night (especially at the end of summer).

The estate’s property extends over 142 hectares, of which 25 ha are under vine and 24 ha are olive groves. The east and southeast facing vineyards are positioned on steep rocky slopes, at an altitude ranging between 250 and 400 m. This is a single-variety vineyard that only produces Sangiovese. Thanks to the peculiar position of the vineyards and the variety of the terroirs, the grapes have plenty of space to express its complexity and personality. The vines have an average age of 20 years. The vineyard soil is rocky and rich with different kinds of clays and a mixture of tuff components. The lower parcels are composed of gravel and clay soil, with sandier clay in the vineyards at higher altitudes.
