Tempos Vega Sicilia

The city of Tokaj is in northeastern Hungary, near the borders of what is today the Independent Republic of Ukraine. The Tokaj region (same name as the city) has a total of 5,000 hectares of vineyard and encompasses 27 municipalities. In 2002, Tokaj - Hegyalja (Tokaj golden mountain chain) was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

When Vega Sicilia became part of the Álvarez family's life in 1982, the foundations were laid for TEMPOS Vega Sicilia. It has constantly and steadily grown since then, involving the introduction of wines produced in different wine-making areas, reaching out to new consumers around the world and laying the foundations for a promising and highly successful future.

A Little History

The Álvarez family’s business project is based on two fundamental cornerstones: products with a consistent quality across vintages and dedication to clients as a benchmark for routine activity. Both cornerstones have underpinned the development o the group and have enabled very solid growth both in terms of the production structure and of the distribution and positioning of different wines. The group currently consists of five companies, the first four in Spain and the fifth in Hungary: Bodegas Vega Sicilia S.A., Bodegas y Viñedos Alión S.A., Bodegas y Viñedos Pintia S.A., Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia S.A., and Tokaj-Oremus Kft.

TEMPOS Vega Sicilia's ultimate goal is to become the global prestigious benchmark of a single culture based on the constant search for excellence, harmony with nature and endless meticulousness and dedication. This is all down to the work of an outstanding human team and principles and values that transcend the individuals, both of past and future generations, and that set the path to be followed.

Winemaking Philosophy

Their winemaking philosophy is to be in harmony with the land. Captivated by the land, its roots, its power and energy, they admire its endless wisdom, respecting its timing and learning from its rhythms and life cycles. Thus, their fundamental ambition is to live in harmony with nature, protecting it, looking after it and caring for it, to preserve it for the future. As a result, they are committed to sustainable and eco-friendly practices. They care for their vineyards with solely organic fertilization, no herbicides and biodynamic techniques to fight against plagues and diseases.
