Te Mata Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Hawke’s Bay 2018

Pale lemon-gold in colour. This sauvignon blanc is a young wine with fine aromatics and flavours. Captivating aromas of grapefruit, passionfruit and floral notes, with a tropical lift of mango, kiwi and melon dominates the nose. The dry and complex palate contains ripe fruit characters with hints of pineapple, lime blossom and minerals. Elegantly balanced with juicy acidity and a long crisp finish.

The Sauvignon Blanc grapes were harvested between March from Te Mata Estate’s vineyards in the Bridge Pa Triangle and Havelock Hills sub-regions of Hawke’s Bay. The grapes are chilled to preserve their aromatic qualities and gently pressed. The juice is cold-settled before fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. It is filtered and clarified, then bottled. 

Te Mata Estate is one of New Zealand’s oldest and most prestigious wineries. It is renowned for producing an array of high-quality red and white wines exclusively from the scenic Hawke’s Bay region. In 2012, Te Mata Estate launched Estate Vineyards, a collection of five varietally-designated wines: Merlot/Cabernets, Syrah, Gamay Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The Estate Vineyard wines represent the best qualities of its grape varieties, vintages and Hawke’s Bay origin.

    Nose: mango, light cat pee, cut grass. Medium body Palate: passion fruit, tropical, cat pee, citrus, minerals gooseberry Definitely more intense than Loire SB. Something fizzy or sulphuric hits my nose.
