Te Mata Estate Gamay Noir 2020
Located in the scenic Hawke’s Bay region, Te Mata Estate is a family-owned winery known for producing internationally recognized wines. The range of terrain, climate and free-draining soil has earned Hawke’s Bay its reputation as a quality wine-growing region. Estate Vineyards was launched in 2012 as a collection of five varietally-designated wines that represent the best qualities of Te Mata’s grape varieties, vintages and Hawke’s origin.
Deep crimson coloured. The nose is pleasurable and refreshing with a fun burst of red summer fruits and candy-apple. Wild raspberries and ripe cherries dance on the soft palate, coming to rest in a juicy and fresh finish with faint hints of rosewater and star anise.
Te Mata Estate introduced a superior selection of Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc to New Zealand in 1995. This grape variety is used in the best wines of France’s Beaujolais region. Estate Vineyards Gamay Noir ’18 is sourced exclusively from Te Mata Estate’s Woodthorpe Terraces vineyard. 45% of the grapes received ‘maceration carbonique’ fermentation to enhance its fruity and floral aromas. 55% received traditional warm fermentation. The resulting wines completed their malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks before being matured in seasoned French oak barrels for eleven weeks. Finally, the wines are blended, egg-white fined and bottled. This wine will continue to develop in the bottle for two years from harvest.
