Sartori Valpolicella Classico Superiore “Montegradella” DOC 2016
2015 was an excellent year for wine in Europe. An intensely hot summer meant that many regions were affected by drought, but the majority of Italian wineries pulled through to deliver stunning wines. Exceptional vintages were produced during this year, especially for classics such as Amarone, Bardolino and Valpolicella, with Sartori’s Montegradella Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC 2015 being no exception.
Made from a blend of 45% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella and 5% Croatina grapes. The intense ruby red colour is matched with a generous and expressive aroma, enveloping you in a mirage of ripe and warm dark fruit notes. Incredible quality price ratio. Dominant flavours of blackcurrant and plum are layered with lighter hints of baked cherry, herbs and spices to create a harmonic taste. Mild and supple tannins create a silky texture, pairing attractively with its medium-dense body, juicy fruit flavours and lingering aftertaste. This dry, rich and fruit-filled vintage rates better than any other year and is not one you’ll want to miss.
A selection of the best grape bunches from the Classico estate, situated in the hills of northeastern Verona, grown in a clay and calcareous soil composition are chosen and soft pressed. 10-20% of the must is immediately extracted after pressing to optimize skin concentration during maceration, which lasts for 8-10 days at a controlled temperature. The quick extraction of a percentage of the must after pressing increases the colour and tannins in the wine produced. The wine is racked and undergoes malolactic fermentation before it is aged in traditional tanks and large oak casks for 18-24 months. Finally, it receives a minimum of 4 months of bottle refinement before it is released for consumers to enjoy.
