Maycas Del Limari San Julian Pinot Noir 2018
Who doesn’t get excited when mentioned ‘Chilean Red!’.Especially when it comes from the Limari Valley in the far north of Chile, limestone soils, tight against the cool Pacific. An absolute gorgeous lanscape. This pinot does it justice too – elegant, intense and smoother than a Chilean heart-throb.
Red fruits dominate the nose and palate for San Julian Pinot Noir. A lil heavier bodied Chilean, concentrated Cherry And Raspberry Aromas. Refined Texture And Complex Flavors Of Cherries, Raspberries, Licorice With A Notable Sturcture. Lush, Fine And Delicate On The Finish.
FUN FACT: Maycas Del Limari is one of Concha y Toro project! the brilliance of Isabel Guilisasti and Marcelo Papa.
AWARDS & ACCOLADES
A red with beautiful perfumes of strawberry, rose, and lemon that follow through to a full body. There’s incredibly integrated tannins and a long, intense aftertaste of fruit and minerals. Seems almost chalky. Fabulous new wine from Maycas. Drink now or hold.
I remember visiting this blustery, arid vineyard before it was planted – winemaker Marcelo Papa was excited even then. Limarí is sunny, but while this is a muscular, dark-fruited, effusive style of Pinot, it’s also fine-textured, graceful, grippy and savoury. Think: Chile’s answer to Central Otago.
