Famiglia Cotarella Trentanni Umbria IGP 2016
Famiglia Cotarella Trentanni Umbria red wine has a dark ruby colour, its great elegance and depth can be distinguished for its uniqueness and softness. The Merlot component is evident in terms of its softness and richness in texture. The bottle eludes a wave of blueberry, cocoa, coffee, thyme and notes of nutmeg and pepper. The mouth is warm and structured with subtle flavour and fruity notes, a combination of hot, dry and persistent.
This wine celebrates Falesco’s three decades in business. It is a bottle filled with experience, research and knowledge after decades of studies on Merlot (50%) and Sangiovese (50%) varietals.
The grapes and the vineyard: The Merlot grape is cultivated in Montecchio municipality, in a clayey and well-exposed soil from which we obtain ripe and rich grapes. The Sangiovese grape is cultivated in Orvieto, in sandy and clayey soil that gives the grapes a good balance in acidity.
The vinification: The grapes reach their ripeness in different moments. First, the Merlot, that after a must extraction at 15%, is sent to ferment. During fermentation, a lot of hand pressings were involved. The Sangiovese grapes, after a must extraction at 20%, start fermentation and during that period, pumping over and delat age. At the end of the fermentation process, the wines are blended and aged in barriques where the malolactic fermentation is totally carried out.
