100% Chardonnay grapes, fermented in both stainless steel tanks and OAK (french oak no less)! With a light golden colour, this bottle of Reserva Chardonnay has a very delicate and elegant floral nose. Hailing from Chile, this explosion of a bottle was oaked for 6 months, encompassing a buttery taste. Amazing burst of pineapple, ripe melon, toast, subtle buttered nut, and vanilla shows through on the palate. The firm body provides a balanced with strong acidity and refreshing finish.
Cousiño-Macul’s Antiguas Reservas Chardonnay was first made in 1969. Since then, this trademarked designation applies to a selection of Chardonnay that represents the finest of the vintage. The selection process starts in the vineyard with the restriction of the yield per vine and continues throughout the winemaking process.
The season of 2016-2017 had higher temperatures than average, therefore producing a faster ripening and earlier harvest. Its main characteristics were low yield, good health conditions and good quality of the fruit. The decision of harvesting earlier was key for this season and allowed the wines to achieve excellent quality, moderate acidity and expressive aromas.
During the first days of March, the grapes were hand picked and brought to the winery. A small percentage of the juice is fermented in new French oak barrels and matures for about 6 months. In order to enhance and respect the fruit flavors of this strain, the remaining mixture is fermented in stainless steel tanks. Before being bottled the components are mixed, and the wine is then clarified and filtered.
