Casa Rojo The Orange Republic 2019
Bright straw colour with green reflections. Nose of orange fruit such as citrus orange and apricot are complemented by fresh peach, white nectarine and subtly sweet tropical fruit of mango and soursop. Casa Rojo The Orange Republic is an explosion of mouth-watering flavours of briny grapefruit, lemon zest, more apricots, quince and papaya. Silky mouthfeel and balanced acidity. The full-bodied palate is rich and well-balanced with a salinity that’ll have you craving that next sip. Fresh and prolonged finish. Subtle sweet tropical memories.
The wine’s name, ‘The Orange Republic’, is a salute to the thousands of orange trees that surround the five hectares of old vines just outside the village of Petín in north-west Spain. Tucked away in the south-east of Galica, just about as far away as you can get from the Atlantic, on the banks of the Sil River are the perfect vineyards to elaborate Casa Rojo’s Godello. Godello has become quite fashionable in the last few years and the best come from the appellations such as Valdeorras.
Thirty year-old vineyards of Villa Quinta parcels, with one of the highest altitudes in the wine region of Valdeorras. Harvested by hand and meticulously selected, the grapes enter the winery and macerate for three hours. Ageing is done on fine lees (after separating the thick lees) for 5 months in new French oak barrels prior to bottling.
