Description

Broc Cellars Wirth Zinfandel 2018

Not your typical Zinfandel, this bottle is more concentrated and with more tannins, yums!

Broc Cellars Wirth Zinfandel has a dark red colour with fruit-forward nose with hints of spice. Notes of black and red fruit, licorice, cardamom, and a floral bouquet come forth in this incredibly drinkable Zinfandel. Its palate is lively with bright acidity in a concentrated body with a beautiful balance and tannic structure. The wine exudes notes of cloves and cherries.

The fruit is destemmed into 5 ton stainless steel open-top fermenters, where it ferments naturally. It is then aged in 60 gallon neutral French oak barrels for 10 months.

Zinfandel first came to California during the Gold Rush. It grows beautifully and thrives in California soil. The winemaking team loved Zinfandel’s older expressions before it got a bad name in California for being high in alcohol and overly ripe. Wirth Vineyard’s Zinfandel is different from the Vine Starr Zinfandel. It is slightly more concentrated with more tannins and beautiful acidity. The fruit is very special and we are excited to share this bottle with you.

Wirth Vineyard’s Zinfandel was planted in 1948 on the vineyard’s hillside and thrives in the volcanic iron-rich soils. The old vines are dry-farmed with low yields (1 ton per acre). Steve Wirth took over farming from his dad a few decades ago. He farms the vineyard without using synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers.

AWARDS & ACCOLADES

I often find myself gravitating to Sonoma County Zinfandels. The 2018 Broc Cellars Vine Starr is a delicious wine. TASTING NOTES: This wine is active, bright, and lively. Its fruit-forward aromas and flavors of red berries stay beautifully on the palate. Pair it with lightly-spiced hamburgers – Wilfred Wong
