Bindi Sergardi – Chianti Classico Riserva ‘Calidonia’ DOCG 2015

Dedicated to Calidonia Sergardi, who married Girolamo Bindi, creating the indissoluble union between the two families. This wine is a sign of gratitude to their past and to the people that brought them to where they are today.

Made of 97% Sangiovese, 3% CabernetIntense. Ruby red colour. The wide, complex nose reveals fruit and floral notes along with spices and incense. Black cherry, ripe plums and abundant violet aromas with vanilla and smokey oak details. Vibrant and elegant with excellent structure, silky tannins and a long spiced finish. It is an excellent expression of Mocenni’s terroir and of Chianti Classico Riserva.

Bindi Sergardi’s Chianti Classico Riserva Calidonia is created with the best grapes from a vineyard in Mocenni, in the heart of the Chianti Classico. The vineyard is located in the province of Siena at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level. Here the grapes have thrived in Alberese and Galestro soils. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats where maceration lasts about 18–20 days at a controlled temperature of 28–30°C. Shortly after alcoholic fermentation, the wine is transferred into 42 HL oak barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place. The estate bottled wine then remains stored in the cellar for further refinement.

Top tip: Decant an hour before serving!

Psst… Chianti wine is made primarily with Sangiovese grapes grown in delimited production areas in the provinces of Siena. Namely Florence, Pistoia, Pisa, Prato and Arezzo. The gentle, amply terraced hills and valleys of the area offer fine wine from vineyards, traditional symbols of the Tuscan landscape. The beauty, history, and unique flavors of Tuscany, are all reflected in this fresh and fruity wine. Courtesy of the most well-known and loved region of Italy in the world.

The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Tenuta Mocenni Calidonia is a classic Riserva, albeit mildly tempered considering the very ripe and generous vintage. The bouquet is redolent of wild berry, dried blueberry, spice, leather and crushed stone. You get the mid-weight softness and sweet fruitiness that is characteristic of this vintage. But this 100% expression of Sangiovese is never too heavy or bold. In fact, this is the first vintage that the wine is exclusively Sangiovese. Some 25,000 bottles were produced.
