Backsberg Hillside Viognier 2018
Backsberg’s philosophy remains that of providing pleasure and enjoyment to a broad range of wine lovers by producing wines not only with structure and finesse, but also with a high level of “drinkability”. To put it simply, if you find their wines easy to drink then they are achieving what they want.
Exceptionally rich flavors of apricots, peach and lemon with undertones of cinnamon and hazelnut are derived from barrel fermentation. Aging on the lees has ensured a smooth, creamy texture. An elegant and powerful, aromatic white wine with subtle oak that goes well with creamy cheeses, strongly flavored fusion food, and Asian food.
The fruit is picked quite ripe and late in the season. The clarified juice is then fermented in 225ℓ French oak barrels, where it is stirred often and allowed to stabilise. 100% new oak is used and the wine is left in contact with its lees until bottling, about 4 months later.
