Di Majo Norante

Founded in 1968, the Di Majo estate cultivates more than 200 acres under vine. In order to ensure consistent, high-quality production for all the estate’s wines, Alessio Di Majo hired renowned oenologist Riccardo Cotarella as a consultant. In addition to producing quality wine at an outstanding value, the Di Majo family is dedicated to practicing environmentally sound agriculture.

The Di Majo Norante winery sits on the estate of the Marquis Norante of Santa Cristina in the region of Molise, along the Adriatic Sea between Puglia and Abruzzo. The cultivation of vines in this area dates back to 500 BC, when the region was inhabited by two pre-Roman civilizations, the Sanniti and the Osci. The estate has been dedicated to growing vines since the 1800s. In the 1960s a modern cantina was constructed and vines were replanted in the Ramitello area.

Di Majo Norante is without doubt one of the most important names in Italian wine scene. A tradition that dates back to 1800, when the wines of Di Majo Norante were produced in the former stronghold of the Marquis Norante in Santa Cristina. The passion for the cultivation of the vine was first inherited by Luigi and then by Alessio Di Majo Norante, currently at the helm of this historic winery. Alessio Di Majo Norante had the great merit to carry out extensive research on the indigenous grapes of the South, offering wines rich in character and thickness, which are able to combine the ancient peasant culture with an eye toward the future. A courageous choice that fights approval and defends the uniqueness of the territories, this is because the winemaking philosophy of Di Majo Norante respects the traditional approach to growing grape and wine production, in order to pursue the goal of preserving all the characteristics of the Mediterranean grapes. For these reasons, Di Majo Norante is the largest representative of the Molise region, which in recent years has been able to give bottles truly amazing. From the Greco to Aglianico, from Falanghina to the Bombino: right from the heart of the wine-making southern tradition produce wines of great value, of which Don Luigi and Ramitello are among the most authoritative exponents. In this wine Renaissance seems therefore important duty a citation for Di Majo Norante, in which bottles you can enjoy the history and traditions, a real rediscovery of their land.

Di Majo's objective, when cultivating grapes, is to maintain and underpin the biodiversity of the vineyards. The term biodiversity intended as all forms of life present in the latter; plants, animals, insects and all micro-organisms.For this reason, since many years now they embraced a biological and organic viticulture. Only natural forms of fertilisers and non-invasive insect repellents are used. In all the vineyards grass and flowers are left to naturally blossom in order to have a balanced soil but also maintain the natural environment for native microorganism and predator insects of various parasites. Such technique also allows a better drainage of water through the soil, with less waste of it and/or the erosion caused by heavy rain or winds.

Di Majo is dedicated to exalting all the potential of the grapes , employing the most modern technology .Over the years they've been more sensitive to sustain the environment. Using purified water from the estate for irrigation and investing in solar power, an energy largely available in nature. In the future they will become more than ever self-sufficient for energy. To them, safeguarding their environment is a choice and need to ensure a future and a part of their estate philosophy.
