Bodegas José Pariente

José Pariente, father of Victoria Pariente, began producing handcrafted white wines in the 1970s with great confidence in the terroir and grapes of the Rueda DO. In 1998, the baton was passed on to his daughter Victoria. Innovation and respect for the environment have always been her principles, finding a perfect balance in search of the best quality. Victoria introduced state-of-the-art winemaking technologies to produce wines that could fully reflect the qualities of the Verdejo grape, an indigenous Spanish variety that produces elegant, fresh, complex white wines.

The family-run winery is now in its third generation with brother-sister duo Martina and Ignacio Prieto Pariente. Today, they are the brains, brawn and tastemakers behind José Pariente, and lead the winery with the same enthusiasm and determination as their ancestors. After taking over the winery from their parents, Ignacio (who runs the export and business operations) and Martina (winemaker) are bringing a clear generational shift to their wines, experimenting and using modern techniques and technology to set themselves apart from other wines.

Located in the heart of the Rueda DO, the winery’s new building was finished in 2008 and state-of-the-art facilities, such as concrete eggs, are continuously added and updated.

The José Pariente vineyards are located in the villages of Rueda, La Seca, Torrecilla de la Abadesa, Tordesillas and Hornillos de Eresma. They have old bush vineyards, which are hand picked up, and modern wire-trained vineyards. They work with the grape varieties Verdejo, which is the native grape from the area, and Sauvignon Blanc. Extreme seasonal weather conditions have a deep impact on the vineyards: cold and long winters, short springs with late frosts, and hot and dry summers with occasional storms. Contrasting temperatures between day and night is a key element for Verdejo to reach the balance between sugar (that it gets from the sun) and acidity (that it gets from cold temperature at night). The terroir experiences low and sporadic rainfalls, reaching an average between 300 and 600 litres per year. The years in which this terroir experiences only sporadic rainfalls, however, yield grapes of an exceptionally high quality.

Bodegas José Pariente has positioned itself as a leader in the Appellation of Origin Rueda. The winery keeps a very clear road map: innovation, vanguard, high concern for the vineyard and a careful attitude. They have a strong commitment to R&D, being in permanent search for quality and excellence in their wine making techniques. Their respect for the environment has led them to develop and practice organic viticulture in all their vineyards. They respect the balance of nature, contributing to the preservation of the ecosystem and betting on sustainable rural development.
