A place to lose yourself among the grapevines. In the heart of the peninsula, where the northern plains are crossed by the river Duero, lies the Conde de San Cristóbal Winery in the Denomination of Origin Ribera del Duero, one of the most prestigious denominations of origin in Spain.
The winemaking tradition had been transmitted from fathers to sons until 1980. It was then when Francisco proposed to his father Andrés Martí to professionalize the exploitation. They started by developing half of the grapes following the traditional family system and the other half according to the guidelines proposed by a trusted winemaker passionate about the project. Realizing the improvement of the wine quality, Andrés delegated to his son the management of the estate.
Daniel and Fernando were drawn to the windswept and almost abandoned Sierra de Gredos terroir – high altitudes, freely draining soils, as well as a mild and relatively humid climate. Though not an easy terroir for winemaking, they wanted to explore the mountainous terrain, determined to refine the area’s traditionally “workhorse” Grenache grape into their own unique product.
A family-run winemaking business that started in 1999. They strongly believe that it’s impossible to separate the quality of a wine from its naturalness. They immediately converted the vineyard to organic farming and their first bottle came onto the market in 2000.
